Vietnam's Ministry of Construction and Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) jointly organized the 8th Vietnam - Japan conference on construction on December 20th, in presence of Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh; Deputy Minister of MLIT Nishida Shoji; Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam; experts, leaders of agencies and units under the two ministries and enterprises of the two countries.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh said that, over the past 50 years, the cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Japan has been constantly developing in all fields of politics, diplomacy, economy, science, technology, culture, education and training. Since 2014, Vietnam and Japan have elevated the strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia. Japan is the largest supplier of bilateral ODA loans and the leading economic partner of Vietnam. Total investment capital of Japan in Vietnam reached 64.5 billion USD. Vietnam is Japan's third largest export market, and Japan is Vietnam's fourth largest export market.

In the field of construction, since 2013 the Ministry of Construction and localities of Vietnam have closely coordinated with MLIT and Japanese investors to research and select locations for implementation of eco-city development projects in Vietnam. The two ministries signed a memorandum of cooperation on urban construction and development in the 2018-2021 period. On the basis of the Memorandum of Cooperation, MLIT has supported the MoC in areas such as development of mechanisms and policies in the field of drainage and wastewater treatment; construction of underground works using underground pipe jacking technology;  norms, costs and contract management; safety in construction works. The Ministry of Construction has also coordinated with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to implement technical cooperation projects in order to improve institutional capacity, urban management capacity and staff training.

Through this conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh hoped that delegates and businesses of the two countries actively discussed to clearly define the contents and activities of cooperation and establish a cooperation network in the coming time, especially exchanging experience, transfering of science and technology, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nishida Shoji highly appreciated the important results in Vietnam – Japan cooperation relation over the past time, especially cooperation programs and projects in the construction sector.

Deputy Minister Nishida Shoji affirmed that, Japan has had a lot of experience in urban development, housing, real estate market and technical infrastructure. Through the conference, MLIT wished to share Japan's experience in the fields of state management of the Ministry of Construction, especially in the field of construction investment, real estate, and urban infrastructure.

On the basis of the good relationship between the two ministries in particular and the two countries in general, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh and Deputy Minister Nishida Shoji both believed that the 8th Vietnam - Japan Conference on construction would be a forum for exchanging information and sharing experience in areas of mutual interest; promoting cooperation between construction enterprises of the two countries in the coming time.
