The delegation of the Ministry of Construction led by Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung had a working session with the German Development Cooperation Organization (GIZ) and the Potsdam city government (Germany) during a business trip to Europe in early July.

Potsdam city with experience in adapting to climate change

Working with the Deputy Mayor of Potsdam city and the Department of Urban Development, Construction, Economy and Environment, the delegation of the Ministry of Construction had positive and effective exchanges in the field of sustainable urban development, climate change adaptation in two major German cities.

To solve the problems of climate change, the Potsdam city government has implemented urban climate mapping, rain maps to establish early warning systems, provide solutions to combat flooding, plans respond emergency case.

Some solutions currently applied by the city are: narrowing the parking area, increasing the area for planting trees, building a garden city, encouraging the use of public transport, changing awareness and encouraging people to join the city's energy saving movements. In addition, the government has encouraged people to install solar panels and use renewable energy for saving energy.
