On March 28, 2023, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi received and worked with Mr. Marc E. Knapper - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America in Vietnam, in presence of leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction, officials of the United States Embassy in Vietnam.

Welcoming Ambassador Marc E. Knapper to visit and work with the Ministry of Construction, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi also expressed his excitement at the growing relationship between Vietnam and the US since the two countries normalized the diplomatic relations in 1995, established a comprehensive partnership in 2013. The construction industry contributed significantly in the process of building a comprehensive cooperative relationship between two countries.

According to Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi, recently, Vietnam's Ministry of Construction has actively cooperated with US partners (USAID) in the field of efficient energy use, sustainable development. Currently, the Ministry of Construction is also actively coordinating with relevant units to support and implement the project to build a new headquarters of the US Embassy in Hanoi. The Institute of Construction Economics (under the Ministry of Construction) has been strengthening cooperation with US partners, including Autodesk Company, to promote the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Vietnam. 

Vietnam is one of the active members of the ASEAN Smart Cities Network and be interested in investing and developing urban technical infrastructure, smart cities, sustainable development and effective adaptation to climate change. Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi hoped to further promote the cooperation relationship between the Ministry of Construction and US agencies and partners in the fields of state management of the Ministry of Construction, especially sharing the experience of the United States in urban development, smart cities, housing in general and housing for low-income people in particular.

In responding to Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper expressed that he was very excited about the results of cooperation between the Ministry of Construction and US partners.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper thanked Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and the Ministry of Construction for creating favorable conditions in implementing of the project to build a new headquarters of the US Embassy in Hanoi and also hoped that Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and the Ministry of Construction continually created many conditions for US businesses to deploy other cooperation and investment projects in Vietnam.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasized that within the scope of its functions and tasks, the Ministry of Construction always paid attention and created favorable conditions for international businesses, including American businesses to strengthen the cooperation, invest and develop in Vietnam, within the framework of current Vietnamese laws.
