On March 23, 2023, the Institute of Construction Economics in collaboration with the Embassy of the United Kingdom held a workshop on "Capacity building to support the promulgation of regulations and policies to apply BIM model for projects" in Viet Nam", in presence of representatives of ministries, branches, Departments of Construction, management boards specialized in construction; construction enterprises; national and international experts.

The workshop aimed to assess the challenges and opportunities for the application of BIM in construction; propose activities to be carried out based on the experience of leading UK experts associated with specific condition of Vietnam.

At the workshop, Mr. Adam Matthews - Head of Global Digital Transformation said that BIM is not simply a technology but also skills in applying technology to construction, ensuring consistency in implementation, reducing risks in the construction process, better managing the life cycle of the project, improving labor productivity, increasing competitiveness, bringing more opportunities for Vietnam in exporting goods.

Mr. Adam Matthews said that currently, the UK only applies one level of BIM and countries need to build a set of standards linked together to provide regulations on the exchange and provision of information between customers.

Experts, managers, and delegates exchanged and discussed many contents related to the development and issuance of regulations and policies to apply BIM model to projects in Vietnam: conditions for implementing the roadmap to apply BIM in projects and businesses (capacity of parties, application requirements, data management); tasks and goals for each phase of the BIM roadmap; proposing activities in the short and medium term. In addition, the Organizing Committee had answered the concerns and problems of the delegates related to apply BIM; information security and safety in the process of applying BIM...

At the end of workshop, Deputy Director of the Institute of Construction Economics Nguyen Pham Quang Tu thanked the experts and delegates for discussing and contributing many practical ideas for the Organizing Committee to summarize and serve as a useful reference for state management agencies in the process of developing and promulgating mechanisms and policies on BIM application in Vietnam.
