The 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Algeria

The 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Algeria (October 28,1962 - October 28, 2022) took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Construction on 27^th October in presence of Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung - Chairman of the Vietnam - Algeria Friendship Association; Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga - Chairman of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to Vietnam Abdelhamid Boubazine and his wife; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine in Vietnam Saadi Salama, Head of the Diplomatic Delegation in Vietnam; representatives of embassies of some countries in Vietnam; leaders of Central Ministries and sectors and Vietnamese experts who have worked in Algeria.

At the event, Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung recalled the 60-year tradition of Vietnam - Algeria diplomatic relation. The Governments and people of the two countries always support each other in the struggle for national independence and national development.

Mr. Le Quang Hung and Abdelhamid Boubazine jointly affirmed: Over 60 years, the traditional cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Algeria has been constantly preserved and developed, achieved many positive results in many fields. The reliable political-diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Algeria was promoted through maintaining exchange of delegations at all levels, the Party, State, National Assembly channels, mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, and political consultation between the two foreign ministries... The two sides have signed and effectively implemented cooperation agreements on trade, education, communication, information and justice. Parliamentary cooperation was also promoted when the National Assembly of the two countries established the Vietnam - Algeria Bilateral Friendship Parliamentary Group.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and the African nation reached 158 million USD in 2021, and 110 million USD in the first 9 months of 2022. Algeria is currently the fourth largest export market of Vietnam in Africa. Cooperation in the fields of culture, sports, science and technology, security and defense has also achieved many good results.

On international forums such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the International Law Commission, the UNESCO Executive Council, Vietnam and Algeria have always worked closely and actively contributed to common efforts for peace, stability and cooperation.

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Algeria Friendship Association together with the Algerian – Vietnam Friendship Association are a key force in promoting the friendship between the two countries. Many good initiatives and new ways have been deployed to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the solidarity between the two peoples. In particular, the Vietnam Drama Theater will launch to the public a poetic play by the famous Algerian author - KatebYacine "The Man in Rubber Sandals" with the main character Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh. Through these activities, the Vietnamese people, especially the young people better understand the country and people of Algeria and the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Algeria-Vietnam relations over the past years have made a remarkable development, especially through the organization of the 9th, 10th and 11th sessions of the Vietnam - Algeria Intergovernmental Committee, and through many visits made by the leaders of the State and Government of the two countries.

According to Ambassador Abdelhamid Boubazine, the 60th anniversary is a great opportunity to promote political, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. The 12th meeting of the Vietnam - Algeria Intergovernmental Committee is expected to organize in Hanoi in December which will create a new impetus for the good traditional relations between the two countries.

At the ceremony, the students of the Vietnam - Algeria Secondary School performed traditional songs and dances of the nation to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Algeria. On this occasion, the delegates also reviewed the tradition of friendship between the leaders of the State, Government and people of the two countries through precious documentary photos displayed at the Hall of the Ministry of Construction.
